About Herm Sprenger

Sprenger was founded in 1872 by Hermann Sprenger to provide quality riding accessories, which Sprenger has continued to do. Sprenger has remained a family owned business, with now the fourth generation taking over the company. All products that are marked with the HS logo are manufactured at their factory in Iserlohn-so you can be certain of the "made in Germany" label.

About Sprenger Bits:
Sprenger and the University of Hanover teemed up to do research on horses mouths. From the findings of this study Sprenger designed bits that are easy on horses mouths and encourage them to accept the bit.

Aurigan: Almost all of Sprenger's bits were originally made from Aurigan metal, which is part of what makes them different from most other bits. Aurigan is a special nickel-free alloy which, due to the inclusion of silicon, combines the oxidation advantages of pure copper with maximum strength. It is oxidized Aurigan bits that produce the distinctive and pleasant taste horses love. This particular taste encourages horses to chew and produce saliva which leads to the rapid acceptance of the Aurigan bit. A perfect mixture of materials (85% copper, 4% silicon, remainder zinc). Aurigan bits ensure perfect harmony and satisfy the highest demands of competition, together with the expectations of ambitious leisure riders.

Sensogan: Sprenger has designed a new material, Sensogan, to entice your sensitive horse. Sensogan is the result of additional development and consequently the improvement of Sprenger's original Aurigan material. Sprenger has used the success of their Aurigan material to build an even better bit that gives a more delicate and sophisticated connection to the horse. The innovative mix of materials including the micronutrient manganese and a reduced copper content increases the horse's chewing activity and salivation in a targeted manner. Sensogan has improved properties but also a new appearance. The white-gold color gives the bit a discreet and elegant look and due to the improved material mix, Sensogan does not tarnish easily as the chewing activity of the horse is optimally supported. It is easy to care for and maintains its elegant appearance over a long time period. Sensogan bits were designed to maintain the positive features of the Aurigan material and to intensify them. Tested and developed in conjunction with the Veterinary University of Hanover and the German Riding School in Warendorf, the Sensogan material was was born and was toxicologically tested, high compatibility and exceptionally well tolerated, easy to clean and consistent flow of saliva was found.

KK Ultra: When a Sprenger bit has KK Ultra on it, the lozenge (peanut) in the middle is tilted slightly at a 45 degree angle. The slight tilt is more adapted to the anatomy of the horse's mouth and does not put any pressure on the palate. In return clear instructions are given as the tongue's sense of touch is utilized. The response from the horse is caused because their tongue is so extremely sensitive that it multiplies perceptions in this area dramatically. Most KK Ultra bits are made from Aurigan or Sensogan metal. It is important that the bit is fitted correctly in the horses mouth. The arrow (on the end of the bit) must ALWAYS be on the LEFT hand side pointing forwards. Some of our most popular KK Ultra Bits include the Loose Ring Oval Snaffle in the Aurgian metal and the Loose Ring Oval Snaffle in Sensogan metal.

Dynamic RS: The Dynamic RS bit gives soft but very effective instructions for a better contact between horse and rider. The ergonimically formed mouthpiece is tilted to lie perfectly in the horse's mouth resulting in soft and even pressure on the entire tongue area, encouraging the horse to chew. In addition this bit supports the contact to the corners of the mouth in a very effective way, keeping the horse on the bit. The gentle joint in the middle which is angled forward-the characteristic feature of the KK Ultra- and the mouthpiece is made of Sensgoan, the material that activates the chewing activity of your horse. The Dynamic RS is most popular for us in the Loose Ring , and Multi Ring Snaffle Bit.

WH Ultra: Available in a Loose Ring with Aurigan Metal OR Sensogan Metal the WH Ultra bit construction features a unique roller in the center section. Developed by Lisa Wilcox and Ernst Hoyos together with Sprenger. Lisa Wilcox: "this unique roller provides a gentle stimulation to the tongue, which encourages the horse to chew, prompting salivation, allowing the acceptance of the bit therefore the relaxation of the jaw. It has been Ernst and [Wilcox's] experience that through this gentle stimulation [their] horses learn more quickly to accept the bit softening their entire top-line enabling us to perform the movements with more relaxation, throughness and ultimately more harmony."

Novocontact Bits: Uniquely shaped for the especially sensitive horse. Novocontact bits are designed to create a unique oval shape which widens the contact surface on the tongue while the rider keeps a steady contact. As the rider gives a rein aid the mouthpiece turns forward and the contact surface gets narrower, ensuring more precise and effective communication. Novocontact bits improve the interaction between horse and rider for a better contact and acceptance of the bit. Made with Sprenger's exclusive Sensogan material. Novocontact bits are available in a Single Joint Eggbutt, Single Joint Loose Ring and a Double Joint Loose Ring.

About Sprenger Stirrup Irons:

Bow Balance: Sprenger's Bow Balance irons take the traditional flex iron and amps it up. The stirrups are shaped in a "bow" form for a perfect fit and features a wide tread for a perfect balance. The design of these irons improve leg position. Changing the weight ration on these stirrups results in perfect balance and greater comfort for the rider. Shock absorbing grip is achieved by a widened tread made of rubber with two types of properties. By flexing in four directions impact on the rider's cartilage and ligaments is softened, without feeling unstable. Bow Balance design provides easy "pick up" upon mounting as they require very little effort on the rider's part-a simple touch of the foot to the stirrup and it gently holds onto the rider's foot.

System 4: The System 4 stirrup iron is a jointed iron that is movable in four directions. Since the stirrup iron bends with you it softens the impact on cartilage and ligaments in your knees and other joints. The heel is always in the correct low position providing enhanced security and maximum comfort.
