How Helmets Work:
A Charles Owen riding helmet is comprised of a hard outer shell with a protective liner made of high-grade styrofoam, a material that can be considered as microscopic bubble wrap. Upon impact, layers of bubbles burst, increasing the length of time it takes for your head to stop and therefore reducing the chance of injury to the brain. Helmets should be replaced after a blow to the head, especially if the wearer loses consciousness. The expected life span of a helmet for an average rider is five years. When buying a helmet check with your riding establishment or the sport's governing body for their safety standard requirements. Fitting is extremely important and each model does fit differently. The helmet should be a snug fit when new, as it does mould to the shape of your head. A helmet should never rock backwards and forwards excessively.

-Computer Analysis: Helmets are traditionally checked by measuring the peak acceleration using a helmeted steel headform falling onto a steel surface. -Microfit: Charles Owen helmets contain a unique adjusting system that will allow the helmet to remold itself to conform to your exact head shape. This remolding avoids the need for oversized helmets.
-Anti-Microbial: Using the most up to date nanotechnology, Charles Owen binds individual silver ions to the fibers of their supersoft headbands. Silver is well known for its anti-microbial properties and helps to deal with the age-old problem of helmet odor. Combined with the Charles Owen Helmet Cleaner and Helmet Deodorizer, it provides the utltimate solution in helmet hygiene.
-Occipital Stabilization: Charles Owen's webbing harness systems have a unique crossover design using a double tension adjuster on a soft edge nylong webbing that will not cut into your skin like more traditional webbing designs may.

For exceptional stability, the patented GRpx technology, featured in the Pro II Skull and Ayr8, has self adjusting cups that grip the base of the skull. -Thermoregulation: Keeping a cool head in the scorching sun needs more than ventilation. With technology used widely in heat control, a metallic coating is applied over the whole outer surface underneath any fabric covering. Infrared radiation is effectively reflected away from the head.

About Charles Owen Vests
Gelfoam: This material has revolutionized body protection. It is heat activated by the body and fits like a gel pad. Unlike traditional gel, Gelfoam has millions of trapped air bubbles that reduces its weight and increases its impact absorption. Gelfoam has eliminated the common problem of the bottom of the garment contacting the saddle and causing discomfort.
Spinal Grip: One of the greatest problems with body protectors is movement up the body. Spinal grip was developed by Charles Owen to solve this problem for very body shape. Spinal grip locks the garment into the base of the spine, stopping vertical movement that causes the over shoulder protection to end up around the ears with exposure of the lumbar vertebrae.
Interchangeable Panels: A special feature of the Charles Owen Body Protector is the ability to interchange panels from adjacent sizes. This allows for a customized fit off the shelf and ensures that the correct front length is obtained to protect the liver and spleen while still maintaining flexibility. An additional safety feature is the ability to remove the front and back panels without moving the body so that life saving CPR can be performed.
